An Emirati director has wrapped up shooting of his second feature film.
Ali F Mostafa, best known for City of Life, travelled from Abu Dhabi to Jordan to make From A to B, which follows the misadventures of three friends who embark on a road trip from Abu Dhabi to Beirut.
“I am so proud to have wrapped our shoot on From A to B on schedule,” Mostafa said.
“It has been a busy few weeks, but we have had fun along the way. I’d like to thank our great cast and crew for all their efforts and for making this film such a joy to work on.”
Tipped for release at the end of this year, From A to B stars Saudi stand-up comedian Fahad Albutairi, as well as actors Shadi Alfons, from Egypt, and Syria’s Fadi Rifaii.
They were joined by internationally respected actresses including America’s Madeline Zima, who plays Mia in the TV show Californication, and 17-year-old Palestinian Leem Lubany, who made her debut in the Oscar-nominated Omar.
Lubany, who joined filming in Jordan, said of her second film role: “Omar got so much great attention, especially the Oscar nomination, so I knew my second film role couldn’t be just anything.
“Having known Ali and the wonderful work that he does, I knew From A to B would be the perfect role for me and I am so glad to be part of this wonderful production.”
More than 34 cast members and a crew of 50 began filming in Abu Dhabi and Liwa in early April before travelling to Amman, Petra and Wadi Rum in Jordan.
Star Wars may have put Abu Dhabi firmly on Tinseltown’s radar, but the emirate has been home to many other productions in recent months, notably Fast and Furious 7 and forthcoming horror flick Deliver Us From Evil.
In addition to the obvious appeal of Abu Dhabi’s unique landscape, such projects have benefited from generous filming rebate from Abu Dhabi Film Commission, as well as world-class production and post-production facilities.
The emirate’s blossoming film industry is being spearheaded by the efforts of TwoFour54, the commercial arm of the Media Zone Authority-Abu Dhabi, and Image Nation, one of the UAE’s largest film production firms.
Noura Al Kaibi, CEO of TwoFour54, said: “After five years of developing a media and entertainment hub and nurturing local talent we are pleased to be coproducing an exciting local film project with a talented Emirati director in Ali F Mostafa.
“From A to B is a great indication that local filmmaking is beginning to come to fruition and we hope this is the start of many Emirati feature films to be made in conjunction with TwoFour54 in the coming years.”
Image Nation CEO Michael Garin said: “TwoFour54 and Image Nation are focused on marrying international expertise with our talented local filmmakers to help them develop world-class skills that enhance the UAE’s film industry.
“On From A to B, we brought in a level of production expertise that helped bring the film in on time and on budget. In turn, this allowed Ali the freedom to be at his creative best and deliver a great film.”
Ali will edit the film over the next two months with the post-production team at TwoFour54.
